Welcome to Minnows Kindergarten!

Minnows is a small, friendly, early childhood daycare centre, located in the heart of Ōmokoroa. Designed to have a home-like feel inside and out, our centre adjoins a large paddock and is near Cooney Reserve offering ample space to run around and explore. Our qualified teachers provide a high standard of childcare and preschool education for 0-6 year olds, including a school readiness programme for the older children.

We have competitive fees for children of all ages and offer at least 20 free ECE hours for those 3+ years. Our centre is licensed for only 27 children and has excellent teacher to child ratios. We celebrate diversity and pride ourselves on being inclusive. Our centre is open 7.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, offering flexible, affordable, quality care.

Our Focus

Minnows aims to be consistently responsive and solicitous to each child’s individual needs and requirements. We endeavor to demonstrate sincere warmth, care and respect in order first to build trust so that each child feels secure and then to encourage and provide scaffolding to enhance each child to grow as a competent and confident learner, who develops a strong sense of self and in turn develops high positive self-esteem.

We acknowledge parents as being the first educators of their children and the importance of working together for a positive learning outcome for their children.

Minnows Visit to the Fire Station

On Thursday, the 30th of November, we visited the Omokoroa Fire Station! What a wonderful experience it was. All the children had the opportunity to sit in the fire engine, wear a fire helmet, and/or hold the hose while it pumped out water. Additionally, they learned valuable information about how to keep themselves safe. We would like to express a HUGE thank you to our fantastic parent helpers who joined us, and a MASSIVE thank you to the Omokoroa Fire Station Volunteers who made our visit truly memorable. What a fantastic community we are fortunate to be a part of!

To thank these wonderful volenteers, Nirmala prepared a delicious Chicken Kurma for them as part of their Christmas party lunch. We are truly thankful for their dedication and service.

Minnows Regular Adventures in Cooney Reserve

With this beautiful reserve just on our doorstep, we love to take regular walks to Cooney Reserve. We look for the Fairy Houses, butterflies, birds and flowers. We have races up and down the hill, stop for a break in the bird lookout, visit the Kuaka Sculpture, and close our eyes to listen to the Tui sing in the trees above!
